Book of ABC's

We Made Our Own Book of ABC's!

Easy. Fun. Worth it.

I LOVED this activity! I have always wanted to write a book (and have started but not finished many books, many times) but this time, I will actually finish one! Granted, this particular work may not be what you would consider a literary masterpiece and the editing was a breeze (hehe), but it is a book nonetheless and one that our whole family is excited for.

What We Did

The prep was incredibly easy.

DAY 1: "A"is for Apple

I drew out a capital letter "A" and a lower case letter "a". We talked about the letter, traced it with our finger, and talked about the sound it made. We used items we had around the house to help us to trace the letters. For the "A", we used stamps that G really likes. We then talked about words that began with the letter, such as "Apple" and "Animal". We took a photo of G with an apple and a photo of the letter sheet. I then edited them together to make the first page in our book.

DAY 2: "B" is for Bear

We followed the same model for "B", this time using play dough to trace and photos of the girls' favourite bears.

DAY 3: "C" is for Cookie

For the "C", we traced it with gold fish crackers and took a picture with a cookie. Easy!

To be Continued:

For the rest of the alphabet, we will be using items found at home for the "tracing". Some of the items will include:
  • stickers
  • spaghetti
  • rocks
  • beads
  • straws
  • cars
  • paint
  • pom poms
  • cereal
  • leaves
It will take us a few more weeks to finish the book. After I collect all of the photography and put the pages together, I will either print it at home and place it in a special book or I'll have it printed somwhere more formally. It's not something that I would like to rush. We will take our time and have fun with it. This was a great way to introduce the ABC's in a new light and will be something we can revisit and read often. I know G will be so excited to read it (and soon E too), as they love looking through photo albums already. It will also be a beautiful keepsake for our family.
